The
MySpace social networking website was established in July 2003 by Tom Anderson. Today, Tom Anderson is the CEO and the president of the
MySpace Company. The company is co-owned by Intermix Media, a part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.
The
MySpace portal, true to its name, is designed to help users meet new friends and maintain existing relationships. The portal is a
social networking website that offers the user an opportunity to interact with other users, discuss and debate issues, share files, and create a
network of friends. The members of
MySpace are from various nationalities, sexual orientations, financial levels, occupations, political beliefs and religions.
MySpace also has an internal e-mail system and search engine. Located in Santa Monica in California, the website currently is the third most popular website in the United States, and the sixth most popular in any language. The website has become a part of the modern-day culture in English speaking countries. The News Corporation has employed over 300 people to run the
‘MySpace’ website. The website attracts new registrations at the rate of 230,000 per day.
Designing
Layouts in
MySpace: Users can customize their
Motocross MySpace profile according to their personal taste and choices, hobbies, and interests. The portal permits users to use HTML scripting in features such as ‘About me’, ‘Id like to meet’ etc. The information about HTML
code can be acquired through books on the Internet.
Macromedia Flash files can also be added to the
layout.
The general
appearance of the
layout can be changed using
CSS statements to override the page’s default settings.
CSS statements are often used to tweak fonts and colors. The basic
layout of the page is in the
MySpace default format with only few cosmetic changes done with the
CSS statements. The photos uploaded on
MySpace are either ‘.Gif ‘ or ‘.Track Jpg’ picture files. The photos must be smaller than 600k. The filename of the photos should not have
spaces, or
characters other than numbers or letters. The
MySpace website
layout can be made more professional. The use of muted colors that complement each other can make the website aesthetically appealing. Users are more likely to spend time on websites with these types of color combinations because they are soothing.
Adding
background music to the
MySpace profile is a very common practice. Artistes and bands add their music to their
MySpace profile to promote their
music. The process of adding
music to the
MySpace profile layout is relatively simple. Members can visit the
MySpace music source in order to listen to
music from a favorite
MySpace artiste. The Add button is added to the
song, if it is available for addition. The
music is then automatically added to the
background of the
MySpace website. A user is only able to add one
song to his
profile, but can change it if he prefers a different
song.
The present generation of youth is switching over to their computer screens,
cell phones, instant messaging, and
online social networking for support and to share common interests. Websites like
MySpace.com have replaced the shopping mall, cafes, and other local hangout joints to meet in.
